The Department is delighted to announce new graduate and undergraduate scholarships based on generous donations from Dr. Sergiy and Tetyana Kryvoruchko. The donors are successful entrepreneurs who believe that "Happiness is to be helpful to people."
Graduate Scholarship Recipients
The recipients of the inaugural Dr. Sergiy and Tetyana Kryvoruchko Graduate Scholarship in Mathematics are Federico Manganello and Talant Talipov.
Federico Manganello earned his Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Trieste, where he completed his thesis under the supervision of Prof. S. Bianchini. He was also awarded a mathematics fellowship by SISSA. In 2023, he began his PhD in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Toronto, focusing on the static Kohn-Sham equation and the Gross-Pitaevskii equation under the guidance of Prof. I. M. Sigal. He also collaborates with Prof. S. Cuccagna at the University of Trieste.
Talant Talipov received his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Moscow State University and is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Toronto under the supervision of Prof. Yevgeny Liokumovich. His research focuses on geometric analysis. He has authored two research papers and presented his work at several conferences and seminars. Beyond his academic contributions, Talant co-founded the Kazakh Student Association at the University of Toronto, which now connects over 70 students and promotes cultural exchange. He remains deeply involved in both research and student life.
Undergraduate Scholarship Recipients
The recipients of the inaugural Dr. Sergiy and Tetyana Kryvoruchko Undergraduate Scholarship in Mathematics are Tom Pan and Kristopher Zhao.
Tom Pan is a fourth-year undergraduate student specializing in mathematical applications in economics and finance. His academic interests include probability theory and stochastic processes. He has conducted research on the rate of convergence of Markov chains and is currently exploring stochastic partial differential equations in financial modeling.
Kristopher Zhao is a second-year mathematics specialist student with a keen interest in number theory, representation theory, and related fields. He is passionate about solving mathematical puzzles and participated in the U of T Putnam team this year. Kristopher serves as the Vice President of Communication in the Math Union, organizing events such as the Integration Bee and Colloquium. He will take on the role of Vice President of Academic in the upcoming academic year.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all four recipients and our sincere thanks to Dr. Sergiy and Tetyana Kryvoruchko for their meaningful support of student excellence in mathematics.
