The Department of Mathematics is pleased to announce that Alptekin Göksan has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 Governor General’s Silver Medal, one of Canada’s most prestigious academic honours. Awarded annually to the top undergraduate students across the country, the Silver Medal recognizes exceptional scholastic achievements at the university level.
Alptekin is graduating from the University of Toronto ( U of T) with a Specialist in Mathematics and a Major in Biochemistry. He recently collaborated with Prof. Ignacio Uriarte-Tuero on a research project in harmonic analysis, which culminated in a research paper. A two-time top-200 finalist in the Putnam Mathematical Competition, he was also part of the U of T team that earned Honourable Mention. This fall, Alptekin will begin his PhD in Mathematics at the U of T. On receiving the honour he remarked:
Mathematics is where curiosity meets clarity. I'm grateful for the opportunities and mentors that helped shape my journey so far.
Congratulation Alptekin on this well-deserved honour!
