Fabian Parsch has been awarded the Faculty of Arts and Science Outstanding Teaching Award – Early Career. The award recognizes teaching excellence in undergraduate and graduate education with a focus on classroom instruction and course design and/or curriculum development, for early career faculty.

Professor Parsch expressed his appreciation for receiving this award:

“I am very honored to receive this award recognizing my work both inside and outside the classroom. One of the best aspects of working at U of T is that we get to teach students with very diverse lived experiences. I am looking forward to continuing collaborating with my great fellow teachers and our excellent staff to make math approachable and accessible to these students, no matter what path they took to join us.”

Professor Parsch completed his B.Sc. in Mathematics at the University of Konstanz in Germany. After completing both his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Toronto, he joined the Department as Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in 2019. His research revolves around geometry, both in pure mathematics, with a focus on quantitative aspects of geodesic nets, and in collaboration with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, studying the geometry of particle configurations as a measure of local and global order.

Professor Parsch has been teaching and coordinating a wide range of courses at U of T since the early years of his doctoral studies, with audiences ranging from engineering students to math specialists and topics ranging from the applied to the abstract.
