The Department of Mathematics is excited to announce that professor Jacopo De Simoi has been awarded the Michael Brin Prize.

The Brin Prize was established in 2008. It was bi-annual until 2017 and became annual in 2018.

Professor Emeritus Michael Brin of the University of Maryland has endowed an international prize for outstanding work in the theory of dynamical systems and related areas. The prize is given for specific mathematical achievements that appear as a single or a series of publications in refereed journals, proceedings, or monographs. The goal of the prize is to recognize mathematicians who have made substantial impact in the field at an early stage of their careers. The recipients should be no more than fourteen years from Ph.D. The first Brin Prize was presented in April 2008 at the Maryland session of the Semi-annual workshop on Dynamical systems and Related topics, which was dedicated to Michael Brin's 60th birthday. The 2009 - 2017 prizes have been awarded in odd years and presented at the Penn State Fall sessions of the Semi-annual workshop in Dynamical systems and Related topics. Starting with 2018 the prize will be will be awarded in even years at the Maryland Spring sessions and in the odd years at the Penn State Fall sessions of the Semi-annual workshop in Dynamical systems and Related topics.
