Biography
Toni Annala got his PhD from the University of British Columbia in 2022. Before coming to the University of Toronto, he spent the 2022 summer as a postdoctoral researcher at the Aalto University, two years as a member at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, and one year as an L.E. Dickson Instructor at the University of Chicago.
Toni is essentially an applied mathematician, finding applications of topology in other subjects, including algebraic geometry, number theory, and physics. In a recent collaboration with Ryomei Iwasa and Marc Hoyois, they have discovered a way of doing homotopy theory without homotopies in algebraic geometry.
