Count Me In
Count Me In is a three-part initiative, sponsored by NSERC PromoScience, designed to support teachers, educators, and students in reducing math anxiety and creating positive math learning experiences. Together, these three components create a well-rounded approach to reducing math anxiety, by supporting educators in their teaching and by directly engaging students in meaningful, positive math experiences.
Summer Teacher's Conference
We launched the program with the annual Count Me In Conference at the end of August. With 12 workshops and over 200 attendees, educators came together to explore strategies for building student confidence and engagement in math.
Community Learning Opportunities - Starting November 2025
Our next step is to provide quarterly community learning opportunities for teachers and educators. These sessions will create a space to share best practices, collaborate, and learn new approaches for fostering positive attitudes toward math in the classroom.
In-Person Enrichment Program - Starting January 2025
Beginning in January, we will bring Count Me In directly to students through an enrichment program hosted at a selected school. This initiative will focus on helping students engage with math in a hands-on, supportive environment, with the goal of lowering math anxiety and building confidence.
Community Learning and In Person– Interest Form
We acknowledge the support of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
Fields Trip Program - Math Workshops
We are sad to announce that the Fields Trip Program will not be happening for the 2025-2026 year. We hope to resume this program next year.
About
Attention teachers! You can bring your class to the Department of Mathematics for a half-day program on the University of Toronto Campus or join virtually. This program is offered at no cost. At this time, we do not offer off-campus school visits.
The lessons provided give students a chance to explore math concepts not typically covered in the standard curriculum. Students will see how these concepts connect to the real world and to the research going on in our department by some of the world's top math researchers. They will also get to experience a class at Canada's largest university. Whenever possible, classes are held at the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematics, a wonderfully math-rich environment.
