August High School Math Programs

Location: Zoom (Online)
Tentative Schedule: 10AM - 11:30AM and 12 PM to 1:30 PM (students are to attend both times)
Course Description: This course is intended to support the transition from middle school to the greater complexity of high school math. It is intended for students who have completed grade 8 math and are looking for extra support to ensure success next year. The Grade 9 Math Preparation Course will review concepts in the grade 8 curriculum that are foundational and touch on some of the most central concepts of the grade 9 curriculum.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (ET - Toronto Time)
Course Description: Unlock the hidden connections between secret codes and winning strategies! This camp dives into the mathematics of game theory and cryptography, two fields where logic and clever thinking are key! Students will analyze classic combinatorial games, learn how to crack (and create) ciphers, and discover how strategic reasoning and code-breaking both rely on deep mathematical thinking. On the final day, students will bring it all together by creating original ciphers and two-player games as part of a collaborative team challenge.

Fall Math Contest Preparation Club (In-Person & Online, 5 Weeks)
The Fall Contest Club is five weeks long and will cover contest questions and problem solving strategies that students may come across when writing contests.
Location: In-Person (St George Campus)
Schedule: Saturdays, 10 AM - 1 PM
Course Description: The Fall Contest Club is five weeks long and will cover contest questions and problem-solving strategies that students may come across when writing contests. Instruction will focus on the fundamentals of problem solving in fun and age-appropriate ways, as well as honing their skills in quickly assessing how to solve a problem by recognizing its type. This helps to start to build the habits of mind needed for problem solving in general and geometry and algebra problems, particularly, in later years.
Relevant Contest: Math Kangaroo 7/8, Math Caribou, AMC 8, CJMC
Fee: $325 + Tax
Location: Online
Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursday, 4:30 pm - 5:45pm
