The Department of Mathematics is pleased to announce that William Verreault has received a Lachlan Gilchrist Fellowship Award through the School of Graduate Studies’ University-Wide Awards competition. The fellowship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence and recognizes outstanding master’s or doctoral students pursuing research in fundamental physics.
William completed both his undergraduate and master’s degrees in mathematics at Université Laval, where he distinguished himself through exceptional academic achievement, receiving more than twenty scholarships and honours. During his studies, he participated in a range of research projects that led to conference presentations around the world and contributed to more than a dozen publications spanning diverse areas of mathematics. These experiences enabled William to collaborate with accomplished researchers and fellow students who helped shape his perspective on mathematics and academic life.
Beyond his research accomplishments, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to mathematics education, student engagement, and community building. He has served on several academic and outreach committees, contributed to the Board of the Canadian Mathematical Society, and acted as Chair of its Student Committee, where he helped organize initiatives and activities supporting students across the mathematical community. He now looks forward to the next step on his journey to becoming a mathematician: his PhD in mathematics.
